Our artistic directors found Savitri while searching for pieces that truly live in small spaces. Gustav Holst imagined Savitri for an open-air venue, which makes it a perfect fit to echo Laguna’s en plein air paintings. As a former yogi and yoga teacher, Oriana was drawn to its roots in Indian philosophy and to the way the opera invites a different kind of strength. Savitri meets Death and wins through love. She wins with softness. In today’s world, that feels both brave and necessary.
Opera Laguna will share this intimate work across our city in gardens, courtyards, and living rooms that echo Laguna’s en plein air tradition.
